Scottish cuisine in restaurant

"Teuchters Landing" in Edinburgh, Scotland, is a charming restaurant and pub located in the vibrant Leith district along the banks of the Water of Leith. It is a place that combines history and coziness, as the building once served as a waiting room for the ferry between Leith and Aberdeen. This maritime past is reflected in the rustic ambiance: stone walls, wooden furniture, and a crackling fireplace create a warm, inviting atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional Highland pub. Especially in summer, "Teuchters Landing" shines with its outdoor terrace, offering picturesque views of the harbor and inviting guests to linger over a drink. The décor is lovingly designed, featuring nautical details and an impressive collection of whiskies displayed above the bar—a real eye-catcher for lovers of Scottish spirits.

Cozy pub by the water

Culinary-wise, "Teuchters Landing" focuses on a blend of classic Scottish cuisine and pub favorites, with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. A highlight is the "Cullen Skink," a creamy fish soup made with smoked fish, potatoes, and onions, appreciated for its deep, comforting flavor—perfect for chilly days. Also popular is the "Haggis, Neeps and Tatties," a traditional combination of spicy haggis, turnips, and mashed potatoes that represents Scottish culinary culture in its purest form. For fish lovers, the restaurant offers top-notch "Fish and Chips," where the fish is served in a crispy batter accompanied by thick, golden chips. The "Venison Hot Dog"—a hearty game hot dog—stands out for its quality and intense flavor. The portions are generous, ensuring that no one leaves the table hungry, and there are vegetarian options that are equally hearty and satisfying.

Whisky collection in Edinburgh

The drink menu is another reason why "Teuchters Landing" is so highly regarded. In addition to an impressive selection of Scottish whiskies—from mild to smoky—there is a variety of beers, including local cask ales and keg beers from independent breweries. The establishment takes pride in collaborating with regional brewers, which is evident in the freshness and diversity of the beverages. For those who prefer something lighter, there is a selection of wines and creative cocktails that round out the offering. The bar serves as a central gathering point, and "Teuchters Landing" often transforms into a lively spot in the evenings, where rugby fans and friends come together to watch games or simply unwind at the end of the day.

Traditional Scottish dishes

The service is often described as friendly and warm, with the staff striving to provide guests with an authentic experience. Although there may occasionally be minor delays during peak times, the positive atmosphere and the helpfulness of the team usually balance this out. The restaurant is also known for its flexibility: there are separate areas for larger groups or private occasions, all decorated in the same cozy style, making them perfect for celebrations.

A Wednesday night they did last call just before 11:30 despite being open until 1? Shut the place before 12. Was a shame as out of the way and then to be told it's shutting despite advertising a 1am close is disappointing.

Had fish and chips, it was ok. This place must be great in summer as has got plenty of outside tables.

On the menu, it says that a 10% "discretionary" service charge goes to the staff. In my world, "discretionary" means "at my discretion," but the charge was applied by default without any notice. Additionally, payment was required upfront, before the service or food was provided—on what basis do they justify a tip in that case? This is even more questionable considering that you have to leave the table to order at the counter and carry your own drinks to the table. Where’s my tip? I also didn’t receive a receipt initially and only found out about the service charge when I specifically asked for it. I’m not against tipping, but with such misleading practices, they don’t deserve one (maybe they don’t even deserve to be employed). As for the food, the dishes were basically salt and pepper “seasoned” with a hint of food.

The heat lamps, outdoor seating, majestic scenery and the flaming water is definitely worth the sit down. Thank you so much for the hospitality, having the all hands meeting remotely on the port is the best Thursday meeting 😊

We came here with a couple of local friends. The "whisky bible" is fantastic! There are a lot of options for interior or exterior seating. We shared the vegetarian nachos. I recommend playing the ring toss game--you might end up with a dram of something you really like!

Went here with spouse and child. We were able to sit outside on a winter day thanks to space heaters and blankets. Very pleasant experience, table right next to the water. Great food - had the chili dog and thoroughly enjoyed it.
